It is the end of the century and mayhem and strife abound. The year? 1899. Outlaws, hired guns, and lawmen wage war in the American west. So strap on your sixguns and cut down your enemies in a hail of bullets.

PLEASE NOTE: Gunslinger Quake is no longer under active development by anyone that I know of. To my knowledge there are no active servers either, but there are people still playing. If you want to contact other interested parties, check out the forums.

Gunslinger Quake development endedWednesday, Nov 17, 1999 5:32 PM
Yes, I've come to decision to end any further enhancements to Gunslinger Quake2. What started as an experiment ("Can I do this?") ended as a nice little game, but one that amounts to a drop in the bucket of Quake2 mods. Nearly every message I received was from a person that enjoyed it; even those who criticized it loved to play. I think that GQ just came too late in the life cycle of Quake2, entering into a market inundated with mods and players who were already entrenched in their own particular mod of choice.

What does this mean? No bots, no gatling gun, no indian weapons, no single player GQ-specific levels or enemies. But the Gunslinger Quake home page will be here as long as PlanetQuake allows it, and the files will still be available. If any new bugs spring up that people tell me about, I will try to fix them and release a proper patch. Submitted maps will still be put up for distribution. Just don't expect any further enhancements to the game.

My sincere thanks to Shadowfire for all of his contributions, both sounds and advice. In addition, I'd like to thank all of the server admins who took a chance with a mod less played. I hope you weren't too terribly disappointed.

My current project is looking at the possibility of a post-apocalyptic/cyberpunk mod for either the Quake3 or Unreal Tournament engine. I've been playing a lot of Counter-Strike and Rogue Spear, but been dissatisfied with some aspects of both. Our hope is to land somewhere in between, with a strong focus on realism and fun. Oh, and 60 or so different weapons.
New 1.2 patchSunday, Oct 31, 1999 5:26 PM
Okay, the new 1.2 patch is out. This new library fixes the problem with jerky movement when encumbered, being able to light the cannon's second fire mode while underwater, and the "moves into first place" messages that appear when the first-place player respawns. This new patch completely replaces the old 1.1 patch... in other words, you don't need to upgrade to 1.1 before upgrading to 1.2. So download it now from the Files section.
New maps, upcoming patchSunday, Oct 31, 1999 12:28 PM
Wow! You guys need to try these two new maps from Maric: "Stone Valley" (marics_gs1) and "Dry Gulch" (marics_gs2). These are deathmatch only maps, but even so they offer a nice change of scenery from the ghost towns we've come to know and love. They both have a southwestern mountains/valleys feel to them. So head over to the Files section and download them right now!

Yes, there are some prediction issues with item weight effects. This produces a jerkiness when moving while encumbered. I plan on fixing this in the soon-to-come 1.2 patch, as well as the erroneous "moved into first place" message that appears when the first-place player is killed.
Version 1.1 Patch AvailableWednesday, Oct 27, 1999 12:34 PM
Okay, the official Gunslinger 1.1 patch is now available for download. This fixes that annoying "Info string length exceeded" message, the enemy AI, effects of Laudanum mixed with artifacts, lack of frags when using the Bowie Knife, the coach gun sound, and adds keyboard sensitivity for zooming with the Sharps Rifle and puts the hatchet and molotov cocktail into the WEAPNEXT WEAPPREV cycle. Both the Win and Linux version are available in the Files section.
