Gamers' Gauntlet  Monday, February 26, 2001 3:48 PM
At this past weekend's Gamers' Gauntlet, I did a brief demo of Night's Edge for some interested players. Mind you, it was very brief so if you weren't there, you didn't miss much. :) I didn't have a packaged version for distribution, so I wasn't let able to have anyone join a game, but I did show off the weapons and various menus. A lot of time was spent discussing UnrealScript programming, though later on Mojo had me pitching NE to a group of hard-core Counter-Strike players. They all seemed very interested, especially with the description of our playmodes.

There are only 8 simple items left on my to-do list. Once those are done, we'll do some large-scale multiplayer gaming to try and shake out some bugs. Once any bugs are fixed, I'll be evaluating how ready the mod is for a beta release. Probably I'll start helping out on some weapon models, for example, I want to get the 2 initial grenades in for the beta release. There are 4 maps currently under development, and we'll need at least a couple to include with the release. So I'll keep everyone informed of our progress as we finish our milestones.

New screenshots, progress  Thursday, February 22, 2001 8:00 PM
As our modellers finish up the weapons and their animations, I'm putting screenshots in the Screenshots section. Today, there are a handful of new shots up, two of in-game weapons, and one of a 3DS model render. So go check out the CyTek laser rifle, MP5K, and Ithaca shotgun.

I know things have been kind of quiet around here lately, but I think I've managed to finish my latest wrangling's with UT's netcode. Sometimes what should work doesn't, and so often you have to determine more than one solution to a problem. But for now, all of the networking problems have been resolved, and I'm in the process of finishing up features, polishing, and tweaking the results.

Shadowfire has already finished two more complete weapon animations (Ithaca shotgun and MP5K) that I have yet to put into the game. As soon as I do, I'll put up some more screenshots. My hope is to have a playable demo to unveil at the upcoming Gamers' Gauntlet next weekend, but I'm not sure everything will get done. Just not enough time in the day!

Connection problems resolved  Friday, February 2, 2001 1:21 PM
Okay, the strange client-server problems have finally been resolved. Not only did I have some problems with player states not "taking", but it turns out that extending a player's PlayerMove function results in some unexplainable oddities. So, no more of that. There are still a few more minor client-server issues to work out, but I don't expect them to cause any kinds of real trouble for development. So, onwards and upwards.
Code problems  Sunday, January 21, 2001 2:48 PM
For those of you eagerly awaiting the first Night's Edge Beta release, well I've got some bad news. I've run into some code problems that just refuse to be solved, and I'm not sure how long this will delay the release. UT just refuses to behave in a way that makes any sense, so I'm having a real hard time figuring out what in the world is going on. I'll try to keep you all informed of my progress.
