outLAN | Tuesday, March 27, 2001 1:56 PM |
| Night's Edge went over well at this past weekend's outLAN, and sure filled up my to-do list for the foreseeable future! Though no major bugs were found, the playtesting did help find some minor kinks in the code that need to be ironed out. Game play was fast and furious and everyone seemed to enjoy the selection of weapons available. The pricing structure still needs to be tweaked, and though I was able to get the laser rifle into the alpha in time for outLAN, the full functionality of the zoom feature wasn't completed. So those of you who tried the laser rifle and found it oddly inaccurate, don't worry, it won't stay like that for long. I've got about 25 items in my to-do list right now, and hopefully when those are done we'll be ready to release to the public. |

Revised news | Friday, March 23, 2001 10:30 AM |
| I've revised the news entry below to reflect the current state of the build. The CP-1 pistol won't be in the alpha because of an unknown problem with the mesh actually crashing ucc -make. Very strange, never seen anything like it. Anyway, there's nothing major left to do, though I wish I had a bit more time to tweak and add some minor enhancements before outLAN this weekend. Ah well. Hopefully everything will go flawlessly. |

Adding weapon models | Tuesday, March 20, 2001 2:38 PM |
| As the start of outLAN looms ever closer, my list of issues has grown continually smaller. I'm in the process of adding and updating weapon models (1st and 3rd person view) in preparation for the limited alpha test this weekend. There will be 6 weapons in the alpha: SOCOM pistol, the Ithaca shotgun, the MP5K and UMP45 submachineguns, and the laser pistol and laser rifle. Plus, there are 9 available pieces of body armor, and 3 other pieces of equipment. A decent amount of variety I think, at least for an alpha test. Loot and inventory menus seem to be working great now. For the most part, things seem solid. I guess it'll all get put to the test this weekend though... |

Night's Edge alpha test at outLAN | Thursday, March 15, 2001 1:48 PM |
| If all goes as planned, I hope to run the first large-scale alpha test of Night's Edge at the upcoming outLAN next weekend (March 24) that Bad Mojo, LouZiffer, and I are attending (and teammember Ro helps run). The alpha test will include the 7 weapons done so far and the Hot Zone playmode (straight team-on-team combat). The only vital code programming left is getting the loot and inventory menus working properly for remote clients. Assuming that the party-goers don't break Night's Edge too badly :) the public beta will hopefully follow not too long afterwards. |

Some last networking issues to resolve | Tuesday, March 13, 2001 11:01 AM |
| The networking issues with UT are tricky. Some code runs on the server, some on the clients. As I'm continually realizing, testing both on the server and from remote clients is vital to writing proper UT code. So there are some problems, mostly cosmetic, related to remote clients that I need to fix before I can call the code ready to go. We'll have an internal alpha test among the team when I'm satisfied with the code. After that, the time to the public beta depends on how many bugs crop up in testing. |
