FAQ now available  Thursday, June 21, 2001 9:04 PM
Okay, after a restful six days of vacationing, I'm back at home and ready to tackle these code problems everyone's been so irritated with. In the meantime, I've put together a FAQ that I'm hoping will address everyone's questions and concerns about the Night's Edge beta.

And I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Bad Mojo for all the work he did while I was away (including feeding our cats). Well done!

Mirror, mirror.  Tuesday, June 19, 2001 11:25 PM
UTO (AKA unrealtournament.org) has graciously provided another mirror of Night's Edge Beta.

If time allows, I will try to roll the past news update into a F.A.Q. soon.

Hold on to your butts!  Monday, June 18, 2001 1:39 PM
It's been a few days since the beta release and the response has been very exciting for everyone on the team. Stone is out of town and enjoying a break from banging his head against the UT code. In his absence, I'm making a small update to get some news out about some bugs and let everyone know we're still here and enjoying all the feedback about the mod.

Thanks to ModSquad for throwing up a review of Night's Edge.

When I run Night's Edge for the first time, UT asks me to select a video device and none are listed.
Make sure you are running the latest UT patch (v4.36).

I downloaded the ZIP or TAR.GZ and I don't know how to kick off Night's Edge.
Use this command line to launch Night's Edge. `unrealtournament.exe ne-logo-map.unr ini=NightsEdgeServer.ini userini=NightsEdgeUser.ini log=NightsEdge.log'

I launch a multiplayer game, but it asks me to click to become ready.
If you installed the mod while Tournament Mode was on in your UnrealTournament.ini, then that setting was copied as well, even though Night's Edge doesn't work with it on. Make sure tournament is unselected if starting a multiplayer game, or un-install and re-install making sure the tournament selection is OFF in basic UT.

And finally, there are many bugs related to running Night's Edge in practice mode. We are aware of that one and it should be addressed in the future. Until then, start a multiplayer game and do not advertise the server if you don't want people polling it from the internet.

If you are interested in running a dedicated server, please send me (Bad Mojo, mojo@rps.net) some e-mail and I'll send you the current fix. It's kinda long so I won't make this allready long news update even longer.

Stay tuned and enjoy Night's Edge!

First Public Beta  Friday, June 15, 2001 11:31 PM
Okay, it's done. Sorry for the delay. :) The first public beta of Night's Edge. You can find it in the Downloads section of the site. You'll find three versions, one a self-extracting EXE for Windows, the second a straight ZIP file, and the third is a tar.gz file for Linux UT. Each listing of each type is a different mirror, so if you find one that doesn't quite have the bandwidth you're looking for, you can try another site.

On the left, you'll see two new sections listed: the Player's Manual and The Discussion Forums. Feel free to make use of both of them, as the player's manual will teach you the ins and outs of the game, while the discussion forum will be good for providing feedback and discussing the mod with your fellow players.

I know I speak for the whole team when I say I hope everyone out there really enjoys this game. It's not done yet, not by a long shot, and expect a lot more enhancements to come in the future.

Final alpha  Thursday, June 14, 2001 11:36 PM
Today I compiled and distributed the last internal alpha release. This is the same version that I'll be releasing tomorrow as the first public beta version. It's a little under 11 meg in size, so it shouldn't be too hard on your modems and network cards. Tune in again tomorrow, around 7 or 8 PM Eastern for another update.
