America's Lawsuits

Want to know what's wrong with America? Go to this page and read why his site is shutting down. For those to lazy to follow the link, the gist of it is this: the webmaster of a popular Ultima Online site, Steihl, decided to hold a contest. The person who came up with the best new design for his web site would receive a $30 gift certificate. The winner would be decided by visitors who viewed the new layout suggestions and voted on the best one. Well the contest went on, and there was a winner.

One of the losers (a more appropriate description I cannot think of) accused the webmaster of rigging the contest! As if Steihl would have to go through all that just to give a lousy $30 gift certificate to someone he knew. In fact, the angry loser brought a lawsuit against Steihl, accusing him of fraud and running an illegal contest! Not only that, but the loser claimed that winning would have "launched" his web design career, and now he was set back 2 years in his job... this is apparently worth 120,000 dollars.

Steihl was careful not to print the name of the litigator, and I wish to hell he would. Assholes like this lawsuit-loving cretin deserve whatever they get when the public gets wind of their despicable antics... every hate letter, every death threat, every nasty package. People like this are what's wrong with our country. They're destroying it bit by bit. What the fuck can you do? Fighting it out in court and winning is horrendously more expensive than just settling and surrendering to this nonsense. People can't fight these things out of principle because they simply can't afford to. Who can? Lawyers? Is this the message we want to pass on to our children? That what's cheap is better than what's right? That seems to be the only option the law allows anymore. Unless you can find a free lawyer or a judge who has the good sense to throw the suit out at the very beginning. (Good luck finding either.)

I thought civil law was supposed to protect us from injustice. Instead, it lines the pockets of civil litigation lawyers and the sons of bitches who have no remorse in ruining the lives of others just to get ahead. A lot of these lawsuits are nothing more than legal extortion. I really wish Steihl would post the name and address of the dick who brought about this lawsuit. And I really wish someone would track the guy down and slaughter him in a really awful, horrible, painful way. Maybe it would have some effect on the frivilous litigation in this country if people saw what might happen to you if you insist on perpetuating this nonsense.
