Daron Strand was one of Gregory Larkin's most trusted and accomplished lieutenants during his reign over Arcadia. When Larkin died in 2144, Strand immediately made his bid for power over the city. He ordered those personnel who were personally loyal to seize control of several of Arcadia's high-tech manufacturing plants, armories, and technological repositories. With the advanced construction facilities, and the firepower to hold them, Strand's fledgling organization quickly gained dominance during the numerous conflicts that followed. Eighteen months later, a shaky truce was established between the six remaining factions, and the powerful new CyTek Enterprises took its place at the head of the City Council. It has stayed there almost continuously since the Council was established.

CyTek is well known for its focus on the most advanced technology they can research or scavenge. It is common knowledge that this corporation has the resources, hardware, and manpower to overshadow any other single organization in the city of Arcadia. Scavengers who pick through the country's twisted wreckage know to take their most important finds to CyTek first for the highest rewards (though the company is also the most careful when it comes to buying technology they've already duplicated). And Daron Strand, still in firm control of the corporation, is careful never to let his guard slip even for an instant.

Yakamoto Corporation

Following the demise of McDowell-Davis, an executive at CyTek named Akira Yakamoto decided that the exterminated corporation had left a power void in the city and was determined to fill it. Secretly siphoning off large amounts of currency from CyTek, he funded the expansion of one of Acardia's more organized gangs at the time. Infused with money and new technology, this group solidified into an army loyal to Yakamoto, much to the distress of other corporations who could not track down the source of the group's funding. In a final bold and daring move in 2151, Yakamoto splintered off a small branch of CyTek and established his own new corporation, complete with technology, resources, and plenty of heavy equipment. His "troops" effectively seized control of a city block in northwestern Arcadia and established it as the corporate headquarters.

The leaders of CyTek Enterprises were, not surprisingly, furious at the treachery and struck quickly against the fledgling organization. However, the locale had been prepared very carefully in advance, with tactically placed explosives and ambush points that were used to their maximum effectiveness against the CyTek troopers. Plus, Yakamoto had outfitted his new army with CyTek's own lethal energy weapons. Badly stung, CyTek backed off to reevaluate their position, seething.

In the meantime, the charismatic Yakamoto reached out to CyTek's rivals to gain their favor. He pressed them to grant his new corp the Council spots left empty by the fall of McDowell-Davis, as a balance against CyTek's growing power. Much to the wrathful indignation of CyTek, the Council voted to admit Yakamoto's representatives to the Council by a narrow margin. Since then, CyTek and Yakamoto Corporation have been bitter rivals, both on the Council and in the back alley battlefields of Arcadia.

McDowell-Davis (defunct)

John McDowell and Anthony Davis were two of Larkin's underlings that had formed a firm bond of trust during their time working together. When the power struggle for the city began, they decided to pool their resources and carve out their own section of Arcadia's urban sprawl. Their fiercest competition came from CyTek, and the two groups battled mercilessly for superiority. When McDowell-Davis corporate-sponsored scavengers discovered a pre-war cache military hardware and manufacturing equipment, suddenly the partnership found itself vaulted into control of the City Council. Not soon after, they made their final, and fatal, mistake.

Flush with power, the pair decided to solidify their power base by launching an armed takeover of the city's fusion power plant in 2149. Their plan was to demand an exorbitant fee from their other corporations or shut off vital power. The seizure was eminently successful. However, the pair severely underestimated the response of their rivals. The other corporations, absolutely horrified at the thought of being completely at the mercy of McDowell-Davis, cooperated only long enough to utterly crush McDowell-Davis out of existence. Rather than pushing an assault against the well-defended power plant and risk damaging it, the alliance instead struck at the McDowell-Davis corporate compound. The massive conflict was brutal, causing thousands of deaths and resulting in vast destruction to the area surrounding the compound. In the end, though, McDowell's and Davis' downfall was inevitable. The temporary alliance breached the walls of the compound and laid waste to the complex. Though Davis died in the assault, John McDowell was captured alive and later publicly tortured and executed for his crimes against Arcadia. The events serve as a stern warning to any other corporation who would let their ambition drive them too far... at least in the open, that is.
