Identifying a Painting

My wife Kaycee recently acquired a painting at a yard sale. She liked the colors as they go well with the various colors of our house (each room is a different color).

Being somewhat familiar with art history, the signature and impressionistic style nagged at me until I just had to research it. The signature is an exact match with Richard E. Thompson, an American Impressionist who was famous for his use of modern color combinations and scenic landscapes. The painting appears to be an original, though so far I've been unable to find it documented. Richard E. Thompson died in 1991, and by the time he died he had finished many thousands of original works. His work is sought-after by collectors due to the uniqueness of each piece (including the frame), and canvas prints (copies) usually fetch $500-$1000.

Here are some links to pictures I've taken of this painting. I am still attempting to ascertain if it is authentic and an original. The brushwork indicates yes to both, but I shall remain skeptical until I have come across proof. (Images are highly detailed... 100-150K each.)
