[A.14] Cybernetics

The science of Cybernetics is the study and process of physically integrating man and machine. The ingenuity (and vanity) of Man picks up where Nature left off.

Cybernetic implants, or cyberware, come in several different varieties. Active cyberware consists of implants that are constantly functioning, unless turned off. Reactive cyberware responds to internal or external stimuli, then lies dormant once again. Passive cyber requires no power or commands to activate. It's always doing its thing, whatever that may be.

All cybernetic implants have a Visibility rating. This describes how obvious the cyberware is to a casual observation. The range of visibility goes from 0 (invisible to the naked eye) up to 10 (blaringly obvious). Several implants can be purchased in different visibilities, though with cyber, the better concealed something is, the more likely the price is to go up.

Active and reactive cyberware are powered by a central power core, implanted along the pelvic bone. It is constantly recharging by harnessing the kinetic energy of the body's motion, and by continually draining some of the host's bioelectrical energy. In this manner, cyber is rarely in need of a "recharge", and these batteries generally last for 5 years. This battery is thrown in free with any cyberware that requires it.

  • Interfaces - Implants that act as connections between the nervous system and other cyber.
  • Sensory - Enhancements to the senses.
  • Visual - Accessories for cybernetic eyes.
  • Replacements - Cybernetic organ and limb replacements.
  • Combat - Implanted weapons.
  • Medical - Cyberware related to the medical field.
  • Cosmetic - Alterations that affect only appearance.
  • Input/Output - Devices that pass data to and from external sources.
  • Enhancements - Improvements on the body.
