[1.3] What Is Roleplaying? The key to good roleplaying is to truly play your character as realistically as you can. You (the player) and your character are two distinctly different entities. Your character may be capable of things far beyond anything possible in reality, while the most simple skills and knowledge that you take for granted may not be available to your character at all. It can go either way. A character with some skill in chemistry may reasonably know the formula and process for making gunpowder, even if you do not. On the other hand, while you, the player, may know that it takes charcoal, saltpeter, and sulfur, it's not reasonable for your uneducated character to suddenly wonder what would happen if you mixed the three together. The best roleplayers manage the paradox of getting into their characters' minds while maintaining the distinct line between themselves and their roles. Never confuse your feelings with those of your character, and vice versa. When bad things happen to your character, don't take it personally, and don't feel something when it should be your character feeling it. Also try not to let occurrences outside of the game affect the emotions or actions of your character.
