[1.2] What Is RPS-Squared?

It is basically an attempt to make a system that is realistic, not too complicated, provides lots of character variation, and offers a variety of choices. RPS-Squared is also being written from the ground up with both table-top and on-line gaming in mind. As it is being written and revised, it's also being incorporated into the Night's Edge online game, a TinyMUSH.

Characters, the main focus of any RPG, are built around 8 main Attributes, 4 Biographical Attributes, 4 Derived Attributes, Health, and whatever Skills they choose. The full Skill list contains over 90 abilities, though some of these may not be available depending upon the game's setting (for example, Piloting, Mecha would not be available in a 20th century setting, and Handgun could not be chosen in a medieval campaign). The system is set up so that the removal or addition of skills is a fairly simple task.

A character's skills define most of their interaction with the world around them, and so they contain a lot of the system's rules, explaining how they are used, what the results are, and so on. Beyond these, though, are the sections on rules for combat, how characters deal with wounds, vehicles, and how equipment can be used. Combat often turns into the centerpiece of RPGs, so it tends to be the most in-depth, but keep in mind that a RPS is more than just rules on fighting.
