[5.2] Coma

When a character's Health rating reaches negative numbers, he or she falls into a coma. This differs from normal unconsciousness in that the body functions slow considerably and the person cannot be wakened through normal means. They are completely immobile and do not respond to any stimuli. Such a person will remain in a coma until their Health reaches 1 or higher.

Falling into a coma has certain effects. First, because the heart rate and blood pressure have fallen so considerably, bleeding slows and wounds are more able to seal themselves and scab over. Any Light Bleeding is halved, rounded up. This means that if a person had 5 Light Bleeding upon falling into a coma, they now have 3 points of Light Bleeding. After adjusting Light Bleeding, Heavy Bleeding is changed. All points of Heavy Bleeding are tripled, then moved to Light Bleeding. If a character has 2 Heavy Bleeding when entering a coma, that Heavy Bleeding is transformed into 6 extra points of Light Bleeding. What this means is that the chance of bleeding to death is lessened, but still there. Light Bleeding still only subtracts 1 Health point per round, no matter how much Light Bleeding there is.

On the flip side, because metabolism has been reduced, the body's natural healing also slows. Instead of 2 Health per day for complete resting, only 1 Health is recovered per day while in a coma. (Please note that it is rather impossible for a person in a comatose state to participate in any kind of activity, nevermind strenuous or even moderate exertion!)
