Signalling flare
This one-shot tool is capable of launching its bright phosphorous-magnesium flare payload 500 feet (150 meters) into the air. The light provided by the flar will illuminate the area beneath it for 60 seconds and be visible for miles around in clear weather.

Pocket flashlight
Slim, light, and easily carried, the pocket flashlight consists of a single battery-powered lamp contained within a thin aluminum housing. The entire unit measures 7.5 cm (~3 inches) long and 1 cm (.4 inch) in diameter. A standard AAA battery will provide about 1 hour of continuous illumination. Pocket flashlights provide little light, however, and are generally only useful for lighting small areas that are very close by.
   Weight: 0.1 kg
   Cost: $8

Standard flashlight
The two D-cell flashlight is a regular tool in the common household. Range and brightness are adequate, and the adjustable head allows the device to function as a spotlight for longer distances or wide-area floodlight up close. The batteries available will allow 5 hours of use.
   Weight: 0.6 kg
   Cost: $12

Large flashlight
These devices contain 4 D-cell batteries, giving them a significant improvement in candlepower over smaller light sources. Large flashlights will run for about 8 hours on one set of batteries, and their illumination is adjustable from spotlight to floodlight.
   Weight: 1.1 kg
   Cost: $20

Infrared flashlight
Instead of visible white light, this flashlight produces illumination in the infrared spectrum. Though it cannot be seen by the naked eye, this light is completely usable to someone equipped with infrared goggles.

Electric lamp
The bulk of this heavy device consists of the large box-shaped battery. The power switch built into the carrying handle controls the blinding beam of light this lamp is capable of throwing. This powerful tool can run continously for 12 hours before its battery must be replaced.

Gas lantern
The dual-mantle gas lantern burns a specialized liquid fuel to provide wide-area 360 degree illumination that rivals most electric light sources. A folding mirror allows the user to focus the light in a 120 degree arc. The fuel tank on this lantern can hold gas for 8 hours of continuous burn.

Binoculars
Through a series of lenses and mirrors (to reduce length), this allows the user to view distant objects at a set magnification power.

Light amplification goggles
A set of light amplification goggles can be held to the eyes or attached to a headset for hands-free viewing. The goggles digitally brighten the view of the camera lens, and display the enhanced picture to the user's eyes. Modern night vision goggles have a built-in overload cut-off switch that prevents normal light sources from being amplified to blinding levels. Additionally, the unit is capable of detecting infrared light sources, displaying normally invisibile illumination such as that from infrared lamp or security sensors.

Tracer
A tracer is a small electronic device that emits an intermittent radio signal on a predetermined frequency. Used in conjunction with a homing sensor, a tracer lets someone effectively track a mobile target while remaining out of sight at all times. Standard tracers have a trasmission radius of 6 km (10 miles). Some advanced tracers transmit only after receiving an external activation radio signal, as if responding to a sonar "ping". These "Marco-Polo" tracers are harder to detect and remove with radio scanners, as they are only transmitting when explicitly activated by an outside person.

Homing sensor
This tool triangulates the radio transmissions given off by a tracer or other radio source. A homing sensor can provide exact coordinates to any tracer within 2 miles, or a bearing and elevation to radio signals beyond that range. The sensor can also transmit an activation command to "Marco-Polo" tracers.

Miniature listening device
A minute microphone that transmits all sounds it picks up on a designated radio frequency, to be broadcast or recorded by a remote receiver. The transmission range on a mini listening device is only about 50 feet.

Pinhole camera
The tiny size of a pinhole camera allows it to view a scene unobtrusively. The camera itself must be connected to a recording or display device through a thin cable.
