[4.4] Physical Attacks
Physical attacks have different modifiers than ranged attacks, and some that are the same, but have a different effect upon combat. These modifiers are listed in the Physical Attacks Modifier Chart. An Attack Score total over zero indicates a hit. Look up this number on the Single Hit Table, and compute the total damage based on the weapon's base damage, and any modifiers listed on the Hit Table. Additionally, you can also determine the location of the hit by rolling on one of the Body Location Tables, but this is an optional rule. The Attack Scores for multiple attacks in a single combat round are rolled separately. For the multiple attacks in one Action, take the weapon's Speed rating. If the attacker was using the weapon single-handedly, subtract the firer's Strength from the Speed. If they were attacking with two hands, subtract twice their Strength. This number, if greater than 0, is the penalty accrued for each multiple attack, called the Speed Penalty. The second attack is modified by this penalty, the third attack is modified by twice this penalty, the fourth by three times this penalty, and so-on. Damage is also calculated separately, based on modifiers from the Single Hit Table. Example: A figure leaps out of the darkness and takes two swings at Jack Razor with a combat knife (Speed 1, Rate 2). The first attack suffers no penalties, but the second is at -1, because the knife's Speed is 1.
